Motus Quartett

The Motus Quartet was founded in October 2022 and consists of Tim de Vries, Karla Križ, Erin Pitts and Domonkos Hartmann. They met during their studies in Vienna, where the quartet currently studies with Johannes Meissl and Peter Schuhmayer at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw). Further musical impulses have come from Hatto Beyerle, Eckart Runge, the Jerusalem Quartet, the Danish String Quartet, Tim Frederiksen, Minna Pensola, Patrick Jüdt and Avedis Kouyoumdjian, among others. The quartet is also priviliged to have worked with composer György Kurtág on various pieces including his own composition „12 Microludes for string quartet, Op. 13“.
Most recently, the quartet has been awarded the first prize and the special prize for the best interpretation of an early classical work at the 10th International Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition. Further more, the ensemble was awarded two prizes at the 2023 International Summer Academy of the mdw (isa): the Artis Quartet Award and the Viennese Classicism Award.
The Motus Quartet regularly takes part in ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) and Musethica sessions all over Europe.
The Motus Quartet has given debut concerts at the Konzerthaus Vienna, the Musikverein Vienna and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, with recent concert engagements in most of Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
Tim de Vries performs on a violin made by Lorenzo Storioni (Cremona, 1793) and a violin made by Julia Maria Pasch (Vienna, 2024). Karla Križ plays on a composite Andrea Guarneri violin (Cremona, C17th). -

Ulla Pilz studied singing and composition at the MUK ‒ Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
She works as a freelance presenter, singer, actress, author, director, music mediator, and host of music programs for Austrian radio Oe1. She played roles at Theater an der Wien, Burgtheater, Wiener Festwochen and many others. As a music mediator and presenter she collaborated with Musikverein Wien and Wiener Konzerthaus, Jeunesse, Brucknerhaus and Bruckner Orchester Linz, Styriarte, Vienna Philharmonic and Wiener Symphoniker, ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tonkünstler Orchester Niederösterreich, Ensemble Kontrapunkte and others.
Ulla Pilz is a Senior Artist at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. -
Jan Satler

Jan Satler (1997) is a slovene pianist. He is the first Young Artist in Residence in the history of the Institute for Concert Piano at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. As such, he is currently teaching at the university.
In January 2023, Jan passed his final artistic master’s examination in the field of piano and contemporary music at the mdw – University of music and performing Arts Vienna with unanimous distinction. He studied with Christopher Hinterhuber and Mathilde Hoursiangou at the mdw and with Till Alexander Körber at the ABPU Linz. In the academic year 2021/22, he was a recipient of the SYLFF (The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund) scholarship, which is awarded by the Tokyo Foundation to “outstanding students from selected universities worldwide”. He has given numerous concerts in diverse Austrian venues such as the Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, ORF RadioKulturhaus, Arnold Schönberg Center, Alte Schmiede, Parlament in der Hofburg, Porgy&Bess, REAKTOR, Brucknerhaus Linz and Konzerthaus Klagenfurt, as well as in Germany, Slovenia, Italy, South Africa, Lithuania and the UK. As a specialist in contemporary music, he has played numerous premieres (pieces by Friedrich Cerha, Karlheinz Essl, Thomas Wally, Nava Hemyari, Dora Cojocaru, Mayako Kubo, Edu Haubensak and others) and has played with leading Austrian ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, PHACE, Platypus Ensemble and Ensemble Wiener Collage. He has made numerous recordings for the ORF and played at various festivals (for new music), including Salzburger Festspiele, Wien Modern, World New Music Days, Wiener Festwochen, Grafenegg, Klangspuren Schwaz, Imago Dei Festival, 4020 Festival, Festival brücken and others.
Since July 2023 Jan is a member and the head of organisation of the Platypus Ensemble for contemporary music.
