Performance and Presentation Training for Singers

Kateryna Sokolova

The concert stage — a place that, for singers, is as revealing as it is rewarding. For without help from costumes, make-up, or lighting, the task of enabling the audience to access a work’s content is left to the performer’s stage presence alone. In the interest of building a skill set that is up to dealing with this special challenge, we will be doing practical work on a mode of bodily expression that the enables precise, readable, and winning portrayal of a character and a given situation’s content. This bodily work will build upon detailed examination of the substance behind the individual roles at hand. This sort of work concerning the thematic, situational, and emotional aspects of a character is intended to facilitate the kind of precise thinking that, in turn, makes possible specifically tailored portrayal on stage.
