isaDIGITAL

With the digital edition of isa – the International Summer Academy of the mdw having been made a permanent fixture in isa’s interdisciplinary array of activities, we’re eagerly looking forward to our first hybrid isa in 2021! As Aristotle himself once so clearly realised, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” — and this August, all International Summer Academy participants will benefit from our new digital offerings. For the first time ever, students will have the opportunity to participate either on location or from anywhere in the world where they have access to a stable Internet connection. Over the past 29 years, we’ve been busy making music all over the Semmering-Rax region. 2020 saw isa held in a purely digital format — and now, one year later, isa will be uniting the analogue and digital worlds to offer students a hybrid interdisciplinary experience.

During isa, which is set to run from 15 to 29 August 2021, there will be a number of online and streamed offerings alongside the in-person master classes and events. And in order to realise all this from a technical standpoint, Reichenau’s Literatursalon Wartholz and Schloss Reichenau are being furnished with fully equipped streaming studios. On an almost daily basis, the mdw’s AV team will be live-streaming concerts, lessons, discussions, and workshops with international greats including Alfred Brendel, Hatto Beyerle, Sharon Kam, and Thomas Hampson. What’s more, teaching spaces will be digitised with the necessary equipment in order to put out additional course sessions.
